As years pass, the Millers continue to request assistance from Alexander Girard with updates in their home and other design needs outside of the home

1967-70

"By a stroke of luck, I found quite a few model engines for the Research Center. As soon as they arrive, I will send them to Irwin." // Enclosed are 12 samples. They include 3 color ways of "EDEN" - perhaps one of the two blue ways may be good or even the one with the black birds." // In consultation with Mrs. Irwin Miller and Mr. David jones at Franklin Square Interiors, Mrs. Miller would like to increase the order for fabric (IM#1153) to at least 250 yards if it is possible to amend the order.

"At Mrs. Miller's request I am returning to you the Item #1116, Grid fabric, finalized, 13 yards @ $9.30 per yard, and request that you return it for refund to the factory." // “2 carpet samples for the Miller Dining Room Rug. We have also sent the following items to Mrs. Miller via REA Express: Mounted, embroidered rectangle, Ivory Coast stool.” //  “The mounted embroidered rectangle and Ivory Coast stool arrived in good condition March 10, at the Miller residence.” // “Have just received the Blake Sketchbook page (in good condition) and will frame it according to your wishes (IM#1176).” // “Enclosed is a sample of a special fabric called: “Stars” of me design.”

"Certainly, this picture has to be in 301. Did Xenia mention to you may idea of making a “301 HISTOMAP” on the wall at the top of the stairs? P.S. Picture could be printed backwards to show old building opposite!” // “Enclosed is a sample for the Summer Slip Covers for Pit Sofa Seat and Back Cushions. It is the closest match presently available. Wholesale $14 – yard (40” wide).”

Mar. - Dec.

1973

"Xenia says that Sandro told her that the simple Italian lamps, which we still have in our house, are once again available. I am absolutely certain this is the lamp I would like for the greenhouse, and I would like it with brass column and black shade. Xenia said she would like some more of these to replace the ones presently in the house. The ones for the house should have brass columns and white shades.”

Jan. - Nov.

1974

"Enclosed is a needlepoint design for your dining room chairs.” // “Check with Knoll to be sure of sizes and shapes of cushions and exactly how much additional needlepoint surface will be required to be sure to cover all exposed cushion edges. In the event you wish to make changes in pattern or colors, let me know and I can make variations in the design as desired. // “Mr. J. F. Bayles, upholstered, believe (7) seven yards of the fabric will be required to cover the Saarinen chair and stool in the master bedrooms.” // “I will try and get more pieces of the “Adire” Eatik cloth for you. Presently the various pieces for your home will arrive. Things move irritatingly slowly these days!” // “New rug for kitchen: waiting to receive old rug so I may make a revised design layout for new size in same design. // “Enclosed is a brochure describing some new standing lamps I thought might interest you for your “greenhouse” library.”

Feb. - Dec.

1975-80

"Eames chair shell top only, covered in white vinyl. Please advise if you wish me to order this. New rugs: it is my understanding that Mrs. Miller wishes me to prepare a new design for these rugs which would be made in the same quality and type of the one just completed for the kitchen.” // “Fireplace Seating: Mrs. Miller requested information on possible new chairs for this area.” // “Mrs. Miller would like to see your suggestions for a new seating arrangement in master bedroom which provides for comfortable seating for two people in relation to both fireplace and TV.” // “In sketching out plans for the room next to my working office, think a little bit about my Great-Grandfather’s desk. If there is any way to keep that, I would like to have it. It connects up the past, it has a connection with the building, and It is a conversation piece.”
